I was browsing through an old cookbook the other day and came upon this recipe and thought I’d give it a try after I bought a can of evaporated milk.
The recipe is easy enough. They say that children can make it.
2 tablespoons of evaporated milk
2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon instant cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup chopped nuts
The recipe reads: Add the sugar last and knead with hands till smooth. Put in 4-1/2 x 5-1/2-inch pan. Press in the nuts.
So I mixed everything except the sugar together in a bowl.
Added in the powdered sugar and kneaded until it was smooth. Pressed it with my knuckles into a storage container because this stuff was really dense!
Then I pressed some nuts into it as directed. Was simple enough to make, now the taste test.
I tried it. Not the tastiest, but this recipe was from a 1962 book. Guess they didn’t have all of the cool candy we have now. As a child in the early 60’s, it probably would have been groovy, but in 2013, it lacks something. Sugar is my downfall though, so it probably will end up getting ate eventually:)
